Argentine Prosecutor's Office Dismisses Referee's Complaint

The Argentine Public Prosecutor's Office has dismissed the complaint filed by referee Lucas Comesaña, who was accused of making biased decisions during the match between Gimnasia de Jujuy and Deportivo Madryn. The match, played on October 19 for the quarter-finals of the Nacional B tournament, was suspended at halftime due to threats against the refereeing crew. The next day, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) unilaterally awarded a 3-0 victory to the visiting team. However, nearly a month later, a special prosecutor's unit for crimes against property and personal integrity confirmed that the referees' security was always guaranteed and overturned the decision on the final score. Thus, the victory in the match was returned to 'Lobo' from Jujuy, and Deportivo Madryn lost its chance to advance to the final.

'The investigation confirmed that the security of the refereeing crew was always guaranteed,' the prosecutor's office stated. 'Despite the referee's decision to stop the match and put the home team's qualification at serious risk, no aggression was committed against him either at the stadium, in its vicinity, or anywhere else in the province.'

Recall that the incident occurred on October 19 during a quarter-final match of the Nacional B. Gimnasia de Jujuy was leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker Alejandro Quintana, but midfielder Matías Noble was sent off in the final minutes of the first half. At halftime, according to referee Comesaña, a man burst into the referees' room and threatened them, saying he would jail them for three days if they did not 'referee well' in the second half. In addition, Comesaña accused the referee of making racist remarks towards a ball boy, which was also not confirmed.
